The loudspeaker can be remotely controlled from the mobile app 'HT Controller' available for iOS and Android. It works using bluetooth and provides a much better overview than the LEDs on the front of the sound bar.
The sound is can be fine-tuned using the various sound modes, like Movie, TV Shows, Music, Sports, Game and regular stereo. All but Stereo simulates some form of surround sound and gives you a larger soundstage. But with music we prefer the plain stereo mode.
The sound level while watching movies goes pretty high. The dialog is additionally fuller and heavier than with the JBL, with a more resounding authority from the deepest voices, such as Khan in ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness‘. Movie mode gives a nice big soundstage to movies and YAS-152 has better resolution in both the dialog and the sound in general than the cheaper sound bars we´ve tested.
The Yamaha YAS-152 sounds really good even without a subwoofer, although of course it sounds heavier and more powerful if you add a separate sub. Music sounds fairly full-bodied with good harmonics. Music via Bluetooth also sounds good, without any noise from the antenna in quiet passages. All of the above makes the Yamaha YAS-152 one of the best sound bars under $350...
